history of furniture

Every semester learners discover the relevance of history of furniture design to the concepts of designing furniture today. This course allows us to introduce new designers to the rich variations of furniture through time and culture. We trace furniture design from Egypt to the present day.

The capstone project for this course invites the students to investigate and challenge assumptions about comfort, design, function and sustainability of furniture. The course culminates in this exciting showcase for design creativity.

Final Project 2011:
From found or recycled elements, create a new piece of furniture which is completely sustainable and has a historical reference to a period, decorative element or idea from the past
